News and Rumors 4/27
|
*On Tuesday the wrestling industry was sad to learn that Rick Rude had passed
away. The cause at this time is not officially known as the toxology report will
not come in until May, however it is suspected that pain killers had something to
do with the death. Pain Killer overdoses are far too common in the wrestling
industry. Brian Pillman and Louis Spicolli died of similar causes in the past
two years.
*This weekend at WWF Backlash pay per view saw a huge match between Paul Wight and Mick Foley. Foley plans to take some time off to have knee surgery and it is expected that an angle will occur that will explain the time off in a few short weeks in order to explain the time off. I personally will miss Foley as he always puts on a great match. I only expect Mic to be out for a month tops. Foley lives for wrestling and I don't think he can stay away for too long
*As many people already know The British Bulldog may have to have carrer ending back surgery. He is still taking pain killers to avoid having surgery that would put a titanium replacement to his lower vertebrae in his spine. The surgery would without a doubt end his wrestling career, however the Bulldog is doing all he can to avoid that option. Bischoff offered his spot back should he get healthy with WCW which can be seen as either a good or equally disgusting action to the one in which he released the Bulldog while in hospital.
I think the firing of Bulldog is a classless act by WCW. They have many people who aren't on TV and still get paid. Because of a steel door that The Bulldog landed on wrong he will probably never wrestle again
*There is a lot of heat backstage right now between Charles Robinson and the boys
backstage. Robinson is a Ric Flair mark in real life, and his role on camera is
apparently reflecting his real life personality. As a result, Robinson isnt too popular
in the locker room.
*Ratings are in for the week of 4/19 Raw won again with a 5.7 in hour one and a 6.4 in hour two. Nitro earned a 4.2, 4.0 and 4.1 I personally feel the rating reflect the show even with the returning Alex Wight, Brian Knobbs and Madusa as well as a DDP vs. Goldberg match as well as Nash vs. Flair.
*WCW should have a music CD released in December. The WWF is also working on
a WWF the music Volume 4.
*Mark Henry has almost completed the Funk Dojo camp and should be back on WWF
television shortly. Marc Mero on the other hand is dealing with business interests
outside the ring and his return may be delayed a bit according to Jim Ross.
*The Blue Meanie was released by the World Wrestling Federation along with alot of other wrestlers, but then after a very successful "Save Meanie" campaign, the WWF hired him back. Meanie
was with Goldust during his Intercontinential Title match on Backlash. Expect a Mero and Sable to reunite to take on the Goldust and Meanie if Meanie continues his sable impersions
*Nash is apparently working hard to get Sid into WCW as the forth Horseman,
however Arn Anderson is dead against the idea. Anderson and Sid were engaged
in a scissor stabbing incident at a hotel during an altercation that occurred after a WCW event when Sid was a part of WCW.
*The behaviour of Scott Steiner outside the ring is causing a lot of concern amongst a lot of WCW workers. Several wrestlers do not want to work with Steiner in any
angles because of his loose cannon potential. Meanwhile Buff Bagwell is constantly
no showing personal appearances and house shows which have put him in the WCW
dog house. Konnan is also in the dog house after asking for his release from the company. Vampiro is one of the most controversial men backstage and is having trouble getting along with most of the guys. Ralphus is developing an ego and is refusing to eat lunch with his fellow ring crew and truck driver workers. Bret Hart was seen shaking Earl Hebners hand at a WWF house show in Calgary and Jericho
has still NOT re-signed with the company. On top of that several wrestlers are upset
about the push of Gorgeous George and Torrie Wilson despite them being female.
Right now there are a lot of backstage WCW problems.
WCW really needs to step in and stop this heat before someone takes it too far. Well if it means Flair having a carrer ending injury then let the heat continue
*As I noted above, Chris Jericho has not signed a new contract with WCW. I have been
emailed about the rumour that Ralphus is telling people that Jericho is locked to WCW
contract until 2003. Everyone I have talked to says this rumour is false and that
Jericho has hired a lawyer to talk with the WWF. Benoit and Malenko are also telling
Jericho to jump as a result of their lack of push. Most people feel that Jericho is gone, that way too. Jericho is currently out of action due to a ankle injury, however may be
kept off television longer due to the fact that he hasnt signed a new deal. Jerichos
contract is up July 27.
*Hogan saw Dr. Andrews on Tuesday and his knee surgery went well. Hogan should
not return to action when he feels that it is the right time to do so.
*ICP told a Buffalo radio station that they were returning to the WWF despite quitting earlier in the year. I really doubt this because of problems they caused and mistakes they made during fights. I'll belive it when I see it but for now I doubt it
*Dont be surprised to see Axl Rotten doing colour commentary with Joey Styles at Hardcore Heaven and also on ECW television. It looks like ECW is serious about bringing in a colour man.
*Although not on the card; expect Tammy Sytch, Candido and Sabu to be at the
Hardcore Heaven pay per view in some form. Also as of right now, Taz doesnt
have an opponent for the main event. Look for a battle royal or a decision to be
made happen at the pay per view in order to have a title match. If there is a battle
royal, lets hope that Spike Dudley doesnt win it, like he has been at ECW houseshows.
*Jim Cornette and the current WWF training camp will be moving from Stamford to
Louisville Kentucky next month. Cornette will be working with young talent on how to cut a promo or play a crowd. Danny Davis will be working with them on the mat. It is unknown if Dory Funk will be playing a role in this new camp. Graduates will
compete in Memphis Power Pro Wrestling until they are ready for a WWF television return.
*Finally there is talk that Vince McMahon is thinking about buying a percentage of
ECW and working out some kind of talent exchange. This has yet to be confirmed
but there seems to be some evidence to support that.

Raw/PPV Recaps 4/26
|
I thought Raw last night was very good. I was happy to see it after the WWF putting on an average PPV. I did attend Backlash and it was fun. But the matches were somewhat boring at times. X-Punk and HHH,the man with 4 moves, was probably the worst match I've seen in the longest time. The Shamrock match was ok. One of the funniest things in the crowd was when three rows behind us started the chant 'Eats, Eats, Eats" when Viscera came out. The Rock/SCSA match was a real good match. The best match of the night had to of been the Foley/Big Show match. The whole match was non-stop action.
Raw last night was good. The Ministry angle really came around with the "Marriage" of Stephenie and Undertaker. I could help but laugh at it. And the SCSA part of it was a good way to start an Undy SCSA angle. I was very glad to see The Rock finally leave the Corparttion. I am a huge Rock fan and I hate to see him a face, but I hated the Corperation without The Rock. I find the Val Venis/Nicole Bass angle is funny.
